Review/discussion of causes and impacts listed at Oct. 20 mtg.

    • Identify Causes/Impacts

      • Impervious Cover; Construction; Golf courses; Personal behavior (Grass/Lawn culture, etc); Impervious cover/urbanization; Agriculture (livestock, non-traditional, farming,, flowers, apples, grapes, etc.); Septic; Drainage controls/stormwater management; Leaking oil pipelines; Aging infrastructure; Illegal dumping (construction material in Wood Creek North); Roads/road construction; Grandfathered developments; Enforcement of existing regulations; Wildlife controls – deer overgrazing, livestock/overgrazing, domesticated ducks; Riparian landscape grooming/improper vegetation management; Improper garbage disposal and dumping; Low flows from depletion of Aquifer is what caused the 303d listing for dissolved oxygen in 2000

Other Possibilities

    • What is subcommittee definition of water quality? We don’t need to reinvent the wheel so base it on existing standards in the Clean Water Act.
    • Map septic tanks (City of Wimberley has a septic tank map started)
    • Land Use Land Cover Map: WVWA, Economic & Land Stewardship Subcommittees
    • Need information about golf course practices
    • Test shallow groundwater in abandoned wells near the square to see if there is contamination, particularly septic

Water Quality Subcommittee Tasks

  • Consider other stakeholders/ individuals that should be part of subcommittee and recruit members in community
  • Set long term goals/standards for water quality parameters to guarantee “clean, clear, and flowing”
  • Identify areas of concern
  • Identify causes and sources of water quality problems
  • Identify standards in place to protect, what we can improve, or new management measures
  • Identify Best Management Practices that can be implemented
